Fastpitch 12u reaches Championship Game at the 21st Annual Maple Leaf East Tournament!

The Terriers played six games over the weekend racking up four wins and a runner up plaque in the Championship Game. It was a long weekend for the girls as they played in four games on Saturday. The Maple Leaf East was a FASA (Fastpitch America Softball Association) tournament with both 11u and 12u brackets. As a mixed team, our girls were required to play “up” in the 12u bracket.

The early morning game against the Ohio Lightning 12u (Hicks) team was kicked off with A. Seders pitching. She pitched a complete game allowing no hits and locking up hitters with five strikeouts. Another No-hitter to add to her resume. Our bats needed a little more coffee to wake up in this game, but S. Eccard managed two hits and a still recovering E. Stahl had a fielder’s choice that helped get a rally going. Final score in this one was 6-0 Terriers.

Game two of the Saturday marathon was with Misfitz Fastpitch 12u. The girls must have had some breakfast before this game as the bats came alive. A. Price, D. White, A. Dennis, A. Newman, A. Seders, M. Milhoan, E. Bolgiano, and S. Eccard all had a hit in this game, scoring ten runs on eight hits. A. Neman was lights out in the circle. Eight strikeouts, only one hit and one walk held the Misfitz to zero on the scoreboard. Final score in this one was 10-0 Terriers.

Game three brought on a team that is quickly becoming an arch nemesis to the Fastpitch 12u team. Blackout (Gallo) 12u. This being the third of four meetings with this team in the 21/22 season. A. Dennis was asked to take the rubber in this meeting. The righty had one strikeout and zero walks but gave up ten hits. A triple and a home run to a short corner drove the score up to seven for the bad guys. A. Seders was brought on as relief to close out the final two-thirds inning. The bats were still alive, with E. Stahl and S. Eccard getting hits. Unfortunately, the girls could not capitalize with runners on base to over come the run differential. Final score in this one was 2-7 Blackout.

The fourth and final game of the day found the Terriers playing Explosive (Rudloff) 12u. The girls opened it up in the second inning, A. Seders’ single, A. Dennis’ Double, M. Milhoan’s single and A. Newman’s single scored four runs for the Terriers. A. Newman started us off in circle allowing six hits, three runs, and four strikeouts. A. Dennis was brought in for the fifth inning, closing out the game with two ground outs and a strikeout. Final score in this one was 9-3 Terriers.

Elimination Sunday found the Terriers with the number one seed in both their pool and over-all. This got the girls a bye directly into the semi-final game. Girls of Summer 12u defeated Ohio Lightning to meet us in the semi game. Once again, the second inning opened things up for the Terriers. E. Bolgiano, A. Dennis, M. Milhoan, A. Price, all had singles in the inning, this coupled with A. White’s Sac bunt scored three runs in the inning. A single by E. Bolgiano and a double by D. White helped increase the score by three in the third. Final score in this one was 7-2 Terriers.

The Championship Game in the Gold Bracket found us facing a familiar foe, Blackout (Gallo) 12u. In this fourth meeting with them, our girls battled to the very end. A. Seders was handed the ball to start the game. She fought hard through three and a third innings allowing six runs on four hits and striking out two. A. Newman was brought in as relief getting two flyouts to end the inning. Down six to three with the clock expiring, the Terriers fought back. Singles by E. Stahl and S. Eccard scored two more runs late in that 5th inning. Unfortunately, it was not enough with the Terriers losing 5-6.

The fight these girls showed this weekend is inspiring. From being the only 12u team required to play four games on Saturday to the battle in that Championship game, they showed up and played hard. Next week finds the girls traveling to Coshocton, OH for the Kid’s America Summer Showcase.
